networking solutions provider Brocade announced that cloud hosting provider Rackspace has completed the deployment of Brocade SAN solutions Gen 5 Fibre Channel through its global network of data centers to meet customer growth further.
In the previous Rackspace SAN architecture, administrators were used to connect to server hosts with fixed-port switches smaller connected to the storage administrator to save ports. This architecture resulted in a stovepipe effect where the servers and storage needed to be located in the same area of the data center, creating challenges when adding and connecting additional storage and new servers to meet the growth of unplanned customer. In addition, it has promoted the unbalanced growth of the data center and created islands of unused storage and SAN ports .
To solve these problems, Rackspace wanted simplify SAN design for each data center and establish a "cap across the data center" model without considering the physical location of the host or storage platform to maximize the use of ports and alleviate deployment constraints.
director class switches
Director switches Gen Brocade Fibre Channel class 5 have been made to enable Rackspace to simplify their SAN infrastructure and create a more dense environment that allows multiple ports per square foot of data center space. These switches are now deployed in eight Rackspace data centers on three continents as the basis for connecting EMC storage servers and Dell for IT environments remotely from their customers.
Featuring a new design SAN, Rackspace multiple links Brocade 8510 administrators set using UltraScale Brocade Inter-Chassis links (ICL) technology , allowing all ports oriented before being connected to high-performance EMC VMAX enterprise storage arrays. Four 16 Gbps Fibre Channel optical cables offer up to 64 Gbps connectivity between each director Brocade 8510.
Performance of each SAN
To receive complete visibility and insight health and performance of each SAN, Rackspace uses technology Brocade Fabric Vision, which allows storage administrators to solve problems before they affect operations. Using "an array glance edge" views characteristic of fabric Vision, personalized health and performance are created that provide all critical information on one screen.
Rackspace now working to deploy other Brocade Fabric Vision features including speed Vision and CLEARLINK diagnoses . Brocade flow Vision is a suite of tools that allows administrators to easily identify the application specific data flows, monitor and analyze the potentially problematic devices before they impact the fabric performance, and proactively validate the tissue to maximize application performance, avoid congestion and optimize resources.
