a survey commissioned by X-IO Technologies, a provider of plug-and-storage arrays play, revealed that nearly half of IT users (48%) do not believe their current storage network will work with the next generation of storage media.
survey, more than 300 IT professionals was carried out in October 2015 and asked respondents about their current and future storage needs.
Furthermore, more than half (57%) of IT users expect their budgets to shrink or remain the same in 2016, suggesting that any more changes to their storage may not be in the budget. Limited IT budget was also the highest-ranking concern for 2016.
"The survey reveals the confusion that companies know about the evolving storage market," said Gavin McLaughlin VP X-IO Technologies . "what is clear, is that companies do not have the budget to keep changing their storage arrays in an attempt to guess the market. We deliberately engineered our products to give enterprises the flexibility both in the choice of media and the implementation (SAN or SDS) methodologies. It is also important for us to let our customers change their minds later on the line. "
The lack of emphasis on storage budgets leave storage challenges such as coherent writing IO performance, moving data to the cloud and choosing between SAN and Software-Defined among the main concerns for 2016.
Other key findings investigation "X-IO Technologies include:
- 43% of IT users need better storage performance in 2016
- 39% want to increase the storage capacity in 2016
- 48% agreed the storage they have invested in 5 years ago, was to own only goal now
