Cisco announced three significant improvements to its (EPN) Evolved programmable network portfolio, an open, elastic and application- centric part of the network infrastructure that would managed hosting providers to speed time income while reducing deployment costs of new hosting services.
With this announcement, Cisco is integrating its programmability, virtualization and orchestration capabilities in its best-of-breed base and edge networking portfolio. New technologies include:
- Cisco Application Engineered Routing
- Cisco IOS XR v 000 Virtual Router
- high 100GE line card density for the Cisco ASR 000 Series
According to Cisco Visual Networking Index global Forecast for 2013-2018 , the global Internet Protocol (IP) traffic will increase three times from 2013 to 2018, an annual compound growth rate 21 percent, due to more Internet users and devices, faster and more video viewing broadband speeds. Today's service providers networks need to be able to scale and be agile in traffic growth and exponential clouds as expected in the coming years.
Cisco EPN, which works via open APIs with the complementary platform Cisco Evolved services (ESP), enable web-speed agility with an open network infrastructure , resilient and focused on applications.
Furthermore, Cisco Consulting Services provides that Internet [DETOUT(IoE) $ 1.7 trillion represents an opportunity for service providers during the next decade. Cisco EPN offers managed hosting providers the tools to evolve their network infrastructures to manage M2M data, which has its own specific transport requirements for the application and the unprecedented traffic patterns dynamic.
Application-Engineered routing
by enabling applications to communicate directly with the network, service providers can improve the quality of the customer experience and simplify network operations. With the introduction of Cisco Application Engineered Routing, Cisco provides managed hosting providers to build an agile service creation environment, combining the capabilities of the open segment, based on the routing standards with defined-network software ( NRS).
IOS XR v 000 Virtual Router

Adding nearly 50 virtual network functions of Cisco, covering security, managed services, broadband, policy applications and mobility, Cisco has packed performance large scale and carrier-class Cisco IOS XR as a virtualized router.
