global telecommunications provider Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NYSE: LVLT) acquired private Black Lotus, a global provider of Distributed Denial of service (DDoS) mitigation services. The acquisition of Black Lotus would add additional capabilities to existing service level DDoS 3, which launched earlier this year, including adding additional treatment centers.
The level of mitigation DDoS Service 3 provides improved detection and network-based mitigation solution to routing sides of the washing system, rate limiting and IP filtering capabilities. Black Lotus adds DDoS mitigation services based on portfolio proxies providing additional capabilities for application layer attacks, as well as the advanced technology of behavioral analysis. The application layer is a target for DDoS attacks that often impact a web servers and web hosting providers.
Level 3 acquired the shares in Black Lotus circulation in a transaction entirely in cash on July 1, 2015. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
