Marseille is one of the key European landing stations for a large number of international submarine cables and global Internet transit routes. Above all, Marseille is a critical gateway directly on the Mediterranean Sea to the communication infrastructure that transports African traffic and the Middle East to Europe . The city also offers an existing framework within the European Union which provides a regulatory and legal environment known for business.
Currently, the primary sources of Internet content for the African region are in Europe, the US and Asia. While there are many initiatives to change this trend, they take time to develop. The immediate need is to answer volumes rapidly growing Internet traffic in the region and bring content closer to the end user for a better Internet experience.
