IDG Research: IT leaders can be too confident in recovery capabilities disaster -

Bluelock, a provider of Disaster-Recovery-as-a-Service ( DRaaS) for complex environments and sensitive data, commissioned a study in collaboration with IDG Research. The report appears Disaster Recovery as a strategic priority but there is also disparity in confidence in disaster recovery (DR) practices among IT managers and practitioners.

The report found that IT managers give high priority profile issues such as data protection and are under increasing pressure from internal and external components to provide uninterrupted services.

Although executives are very confident in the DR of their business practices to prevent outage (64 percent) and data loss or theft ( 57 percent), those of IT Director / manager level are much less confident (39 percent and 36 percent). The lack of confidence may be the result of better vision daily in capacity and potential policy gaps by non-execs.

bluelock draas IT execs also ask DR strategies that free up IT resources for strategic initiatives of the company, which would be likely to receive a warm welcome from 70 percent of iT directors / managers believe DR takes time and 64 percent who believe it is complex and difficult to deploy.

"We have a significant amount of emphasis on people and aspects of the DR process in addition to technologies," said Pat O'Day, CTO, Bluelock . "This differentiated approach alleviates the pressure on IT managers to prove that we support their strategic plans of availability and recovery are real. The removal of this charge also frees our clients' teams so they can concentrate their energies and experience on innovative and strategic initiatives that help their business grow and develop. "

Over 50 respondents varying levels of IT management positions level manager to the executive responded to the survey to evaluate how the IT staff saw disaster recovery problems. The responses came from a range of industries, including banking and financial services, manufacturing, higher education and health
