a survey by Vandon Bourne and commissioned by the Bunker, a British supplier of managed hosting, colocation, and cloud, outlines convincing current adoption of hybrid cloud. 0% of organizations are currently implementing a sort of hybrid cloud infrastructure, but 54% are yet to identify the optimal technical solution to meet their business needs.

The report on the completion of the puzzle hybrid cloud is based on research conducted by Vanson Bourne, which interviewed 100 IT decision makers in private business organizations (1,000+ employees) in the United United. Key findings of the study are:

  • 0% of organizations are currently implementing a sort of hybrid cloud infrastructure; while 96% plan to migrate applications and data to the cloud infrastructure in the next 5 years
  • Nearly 60% of organizations are implementing hybrid cloud so as to achieve greater cost efficiency, flexibility and scalability. 40% looking to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO); and 38% the transition from CAPEX to OPEX model.
  • 55% identified a house blend and outsourced IT infrastructure using private cloud and / or public, either on site and / or off-site, if necessary as an ideal model for the future delivery of services IT

However, 94% of organizations that had already migrated applications or data to the cloud infrastructure, 70% had suffered some sort of failure -. be it in terms of a project that has failed or stalled, or a failure to realize the anticipated business benefits.

vanson-bourne Moreover, despite confirmation of a high level of commitment to both internal and external to the decisions IT strategy, planning and execution , just over half of respondents (54%) have yet to identify the optimal technical solution to meet their business needs.

"the business benefits of cloud technologies can be compelling, but organizations still struggle when it comes to deliver on them," said Phil Bindley, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at The Bunker . "Although it is clear and DSI IT decision makers recognize the importance of aligning IT and business strategy, our research shows that many are unable to bring in technology that the company seeks to achieve."

According to the report, only one-fifth of respondents (21%) evaluated the ability of their organizations to execute on their vision for the provision of IT services as "excellent", while just under a third (29%) rated as "fair", with external assistance needed to fill gaps in knowledge. Overall, three main factors contributing to failed or stalled cloud migration have been identified as: a lack of internal skills (49%); confusing advice, biased or incorrect (44%); and lack of integration of cloud infrastructure and non-cloud resources (41%).

"The business benefits of cloud technologies can be compelling, but organizations continue to struggle when it comes to providing them," said Phil Bindley, Chief Technology Officer (CTO ), the Bunker.

"CIOs and IT decision makers do not seem to get the advice and support they need," added Mr. Bindley . "The gap between the skills and knowledge available internally and advice received from outside consultants and key suppliers demonstrates the importance of working with the right partners to develop a hybrid cloud strategy that is both available and properly aligned with the needs of the company. "
